I just wanted to let everyone know that Ubuntu has released 8.10 for download as of yesterday!
You can grab the version you need from here - http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download
The desktop 64-bit version of Ubuntu 8.10 is 699MB, which isn't too bad.
