Post by DL13 »

Hi I am planing to start buying parts for a new build in 2 months for my son and I was thinking of trying Linux to see what it is like so I google it and :yikes: I never knew there was so many different ones, so which one would I go with???? ](*,) I was looking at Debian they say they are more universal than the others but I am still scratching my head. Can you guys help on how to choose linux that is right for me and suggest some? ](*,)

Ubuntu. Definitely the best one to test the waters with simply for the fact that the community is HUGE. Heck, it's still my daily driver OS even after a few years of linux use.

There are a lot of different distros but a lot of them are 'boutique' and cater to one specific type of geek or require a baseline knowledge of linux to setup and you may find yourself drawn to one after awhile but ubuntu is a great starting place.

1 bottle of scotch + 1 EEE PC + 1 copy of eeebuntu = a hangover and a perfectly configured linux powered netbook.

OK at least one of those 2 things. Probably the former. But really, what have you got to lose? It's not like you can screw anything up so bad a reinstall won't fix.
