Taking Ownership of files and folder problem!
Hi all, so i'm using command prompt to take ownership of all my files and folders since i lost all permissions to my users folder. however i have noticed that when i take ownership of my users folder, a hidden folder called application data with the little shortcut arrow can be opened in total 20 times before getting to the end. i know it is a junction folder to help programs that are xp based to be installed on to vista and 7. But why so many of the same folder as it takes me forever to take ownership if it's just repeating ifself 20 times over. any way to reduce the amount of copied folders?

Re: Taking Ownership of files and folder problem!
AppData has been around for a while and allows programs to store pertinent information there (i.e. game saves, user configurations, user info, etc...). It's been my experience that when Windows starts getting wonky with files and folders it's a good time to do a fresh install. I'm sure that's not what you want to hear but it would fix the problem.
Have you run this command?:
Microsoft also has an app that fixes common problems, though I've never had it work how in intended it to. Might be worth a shot.

Re: Taking Ownership of files and folder problem!
the scan didn't find any issues. however, i managed to delete the repeating folders. i still have the applications data folder but now only 1 and taking ownership was easy. it turns out that the folder was shortcutting itself back on itself and thus being in an endless cycle. also can't believe that my windows booted in 55 secs as supposed to the 120secs it took before
