I'm finally going to convert 1 of my PC's over to Win10.
Its time to see for myself if its worth converting and then this comes along!

The only thing I dont quite understand is this paragraph....

After this your system will automatically begin the upgrade process to Windows 10 Pro. So why do I say ‘Free’? Because while Microsoft is freely giving out the key it stresses this only permits the upgrade to be carried out, it doesn’t give you a free copy – that still needs to be Activated and that then prompts the user for payment.

So does this really mean its not actually free?

That probably explains it the best. It is just a ploy by Microsoft to get people to try the Pro version and then tell them they have to pay for it, which most people would just do without thinking, ergo microsoft gets more money.

now that said, if you have a valid Windows 8 PRO key then you can get this for free but you have always been able to upgrade to the PRO edition for free

Should Home users choose to upgrade with the default key, but have no Pro key to add later, they should know there are some limitations on the operating system. You may not receive all the correct updates, and the personalization menu in Settings is locked. There are also watermarks in numerous places sternly suggesting the user activate their copy of Windows 10. Microsoft is not providing this key because it wants to give away Windows, but instead as a work-around to fix an upgrade issue.
