There are a ton that are free, problem is most of them don't go straight from the disc to a video file.

Some suggestions:
Handbrake - http://handbrake.fr/downloads.php
AutoGK - http://majorgeeks.com/AutoGK_Auto_Gordi ... d5795.html
AutoMKV - http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=140178
DVDFab HD Decrypter - http://www.dvdfab.com/hd-decrypter.htm - use this to rip the DVD and remove the copy protection
XMedia Recode - http://www.xmedia-recode.de/download.html

BlazeVideo DVD Copy is a powerful DVD Copy software. It works in Raw mode, so it can make a truly 1:1 copy of your CD or DVD, regardless of whether there is protection or encryption and the like, it still can faithfully copy it down. So far, no single software like BlazeVideo DVD Copy can copy as a complete CD.

What’s more, this software have very good compatibility, it can copy any DVD/CD to hard drive in many format, and it can copy things from your PC to DVD/CD, and the copied DVD or CD is playable on any DVD player and DVD reader, which many other software can’t make it.

And the software is also very easy to use and have many wonderful features, such as batch conversion, preview the video before copy, turn off the PC after conversion will allow you to free your hands, so you don’t need to stay up late to wait until the copy process was finished.
