Wondering if anyone is using a cloud storage solution from home or at work.

I have DropBox and ElephantDrive free plans, anyone using other systems?

Matt

[full disclosure I work with ElephantDrive now]

I've set it up for a few people but I don't really need offsite storage for my data. Photos are really the only important data I have and that can be stored offsite if needed.

you mean, using someone else's hard drive to store your data..... yea, I use Box.Net for some things since I got 50GB free. Biggest drawback is you can only upload files 250MB or smaller plus there is a bandwidth limit each month. I also use dropbox for very little.

I have set some people up with Carbonite to do auto backups of important items for around $50 a year I think it is.

Biggest problem with the fake cloud is the amount of bandwidth available to most people would take weeks to backup an entire computer. It is nice to have pictures and documents backed up but if you have huge HD videos (like my cigar reviews generate) then the fake cloud is not cheap enough compared to a standard external hard drive, bd-r discs or even dvd-r discs.

fake cloud - the appearance of data safety by saying you are a cloud yet have data centers filled with hard drives that do not propagate to each other therefore eliminating the "cloud" aspect of having your data secured in multiple locations. Anyone remember when Google had gmail crashes and lost peoples emails and data permanently? Yea, welcome to the "safe" cloud ;)
