Word processor converters

Post by Merlin »

My grandmother has an old E-Machines and all her word documetns are in WORKS and WORD PERFECT 5.2. I was wondering IF anyone knows of a converter I can install that would convert all of them to WORD 2000? I was just going to take her old HDD and put it in a different PC to upgrade it for her but her E-machines loaded HDD wont even boot on another system. Any ideas as to how I canget her into a new system without loosing her old word files??

not sure if it will batch convert, but I personally use openOffice because it opens all types of document including word, wordperfect and works. It also saves in all those formats. you could try using it to convert her files or just make oO her default processor on her new machine, then there is no need to convert the files. Good Luck on updating grannys machine

I was going to say I think openoffice can open all of those types, but it seems he beat me to it lol. you can use it to open and save them all as .rtf or something or you can just use it. good luck.

the emachines HD will be locked to their hardware.

I helped a co-worker convert some old files once, I downloaded the trial for the word perfect and saved the files out that way. Office should have a built in converter for the works files.

the big issue would be with fonts and such...
