AMD 5000 X2 series vs ?

Post by hercules71185 »

What level processor does the x2 5000 compete with in intel? the e2200? anybody have any idea? I'm making a moderately cheap build for a guy and debating the windsor 5000 or the intel e2200

i heard the new lower end c2ds can't oc as well, if this is true just get a e6300 or q6600 with a good aircooler the total should be ~150 for e6300
E6300 @ 3.51GHz 1.392v
Asus Maximus Formula
Antec 550Watt Psu
Mushkin DDR-1206@ 5-5-5-15 / 2.28v
Zalman CPU Cooler CNPS7700
6408800GTS(OC 691MHz Core/2.132GHz Mem)

I will help out replies a bit more.
The comps is for a couple about 50 years old, who know nothing but, want to learn to use email and browse the net. I want to install vista not because its 100% better. Or even cause its pretty. But, I want to because in 5 years xp seems like its being shut down by microsoft and if they can run vista another 5 years and basic programs I think the comp will be ok.
My option I think might work
processor amd x2 5000 or equiv
radeon 3650 for graphics. Basically for videos and maybe if they want to play a game in 4 years that maybe simple to run then will be too much for onboard graphics on the speed game graphics are increasing.
3gb ram just so they have enough.
250gb hard drive if they use it all I'll be astonished.
lightscribe dvd burner just cause it's neat.
19 acer ws display. I think this will last a few years.
Considering my parents computer lasted 8 so far. and seems to run alright.
My question is for sub 150 mobo and processor combined. what is the decent options for them?

cheap intel that would rival it. I'm sorry but, I've been an AMD fan since the 1800 was huge. I'm learning about intel and doing some builds with them since they are way ahead. But, for now is the cheap price class still dominated by AMD as it seems?

Do you really even need that much for email? I know you want to future proof, but that seems a bit excessive in most categories.

it's for a family member. So I don't want them to be like this thing sucks in 2 years like the typical thing that happens. what catagories are a bit much tho like video and harddrive? Ram on vista is needed I think since I use like 1.1 doing nothing. I'm using 1.57 playing music. cleaning my ink cartridge and 2 things of word open. On xp doing the same thing I use like 400mb.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/di ... otout.html should help you in making your decision.

Paraphrasing the review results, the E2200 wins in most of the system apps, but the 5000 wins when it comes to gaming. There isn't a whole lot in it really.

If you were to give the E2200 even just a modest overclock (like to 2.6Ghz) then the E2200 would be a clear winner. It'd also be a recommendation to do that for the extra power needed to keep vista chugging.

I'm not convinced that vista is the best OS for someone to learn how to use computers on, but hey. Disabling UAC would probably be a good idea so they don't get worried every time that pops up.

yea I thought about the simplicty too. I couldn't figure out if it's because I've worked with it for a long time is why it seems easier. Or if it really just is. I am pretty sure I'm going with the e2200. thanks for the replies. But, the vista thing. I dunno if anyone wants to PM me their side of Vista vs XP for longevity. sSince I'm kind of going off the amd processor forum's topic.

I think you might find this useful if you have not decided yet.
