Are the integrated graphics compatible with ANY 6XXX series card?

Yep.
The low end. I've seen reviews where they run a hybrid Crossfire with a A8-3850 and a HD 6570.

No prob. I wonder if you threw in a HD 6970 if the onboard APU would help or hurt performance.

Unfortunately the AMD Dual Radeon Graphics technology only allows you to pair up to a Radeon 6670 with an AMD A6 or A8 APU. The combination is displayed as a Radeon 6690D2.
