Phenom II x6 1035t Good For Gaming?

Post by AMDEXTREME »

I want to replace my AMD Phenom 9850 Quad Core 2.50ghz processor with the new AMD Phenom II Six Core 2.60ghz (3.10 max) 1035t processor. This computer is for gaming and the motherboard accepts socket AM3 so thats not a problem. If the processor is not recommended for gaming, whats the most powerful AMD socket AM3 95 watt processor money can buy for a gaming machine? :)

The processor should be fine for gaming, but make sure the motherboard supports the new CPU first before buying. A board supporting AM3 processors does not mean it will support all of them. Most motherboard(and system) manufacturer sites should have a list of processors that work.

Not many games tax 4 cores let alone 6. If you are just gaming then I'd say spend your money on a new video card.

*EDIT*
I just noticed that you're rocking a 1st gen. Phenom. If you want to do an upgrade then look at the Phenom II X4 Black Edition. Personally if I were you I'd spend the money on a cheap Z77 board and an i3. Believe it or not that would be a solid upgrade.

Take a look at this.

If you already have the x6 1035, you'll still see a performance jump with that over the 9850. You would be better off with an x4 with higher clock speeds for gaming imo.
