AMD FX-6300 - budget configuration

Post by m5000 »

Hi,

I have AMD FX-6300 processor and I need assistance in choosing a motherboard, graphics card, and memory for it.

1. MOTHERBOARD: I actually found this motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3. What do you think about it?

2. MEMORY: I'm completely lost as far as memory is concerned, since I'm not a computer expert. There are so many types 1600, 1333, etc. Generally speaking, I will use my comp for writing and playing computer games. I will probably install Win7. I was thinking of the 64bit version. And so, I was thinking of 8 GB memory. Do you think it's enough, or perhaps 16 GB would be better? Still, what type? Also, should I go for 2x4 or 4x2 or in the case of 16 GB 2x8 or 4x4?

3. GRAPHICS: Radeon HD 7750 or 7770.

Any ideas, suggestions? Please only suggest equipment that is in a similar price range as the pieces I suggested above.

Thanks.

1. Motherboard choice is pretty good. you can definitely take it.

2. I don't think paying for high frequency RAM is necessary as long as you are not using AMD APU series.

what i can suggest is get 1600MHz RAM. and get two 4GB sticks. Maybe crucial or corsair RAM. I'm suggesting two sticks for activating dual channel though I haven't seen activating channels do much difference in AMD, still just get 8GB RAM, two 4GB sticks, look for a lower timing, 9-9-9-24 will do. And use a 64bit OS ofcourse. If you are planning on using video editing rendering software you can take 16GB. quad 4GB stick or dual 8GB stick. same stick as I mentioned before.

3. If you want good gaming you might need to take a bit better card. maybe a 7790.
