My short Rosewill case mod..
I built this case just for the Intel/You Tube case mod contest

I wanted to show you could build a cool comp that ran SLI with a 235watt PS.
If it interests any of you I can post more picts. I made the mobo tray, rear panel and front panel from a composite of CarbonFiber and Aramid.

Re: My short Rosewill case mod..
Interesting case, but I can already imagine Matt having a heart attack from seeing "SLI" and "235watt PSU" in the same sentence. Somehow, I just don't think that is a good idea. Other than that, it's a beautiful case mod and I'm surprised it was originally a $20 case.

are you a god? how can you possibly hide wires that well?

Re: My short Rosewill case mod..
SLI'd 7600's on that PSU
You do know that is an accident waiting to happen right?
But the case mod is very nicely done. More pics please.

The wires soldered to the back of the boar is trick, I'm not good enough with a soldering iron to even try to do something like that.

Re: My short Rosewill case mod..
Hey guys and thanks for the replys.
First to using a 235watt ps...(its a PC Power & Cooling 235, good stuff)
I used laptop hdds as they draw practically no power (compared to reg Hdds)
I also used 8600GTs (between 28 and 40 watts each)
The CPU (major wimpiness, but I had no $$ for a better one was only 35watts)
Water pump is 18Watts.
I even managed to OC the cpu from 1.6 to 2.4Mhz(oooohhh a speed demon, lol)
I have been using it 24/4 the last 5 days and no smoke so far, when I check the wattage at the wall socket I get 182 watts of draw while playing CSS.
I was thinking of putting my PC Power & Cooling 510 and replacing the Celeron with a Quad core (have to win for that, lol)
see the wires to the Hdds? There is only a black(Grd) and red(5V) one, I removed the yellow(12V) orange(3.3V) and other Black one as they are not needed. Notice the 2 yellow and 2 black going up..They are for the CPU Power(soldered to the back of the mobo) but at the small white junction block I run a yellow(12V) and a Black(Grd) to the DVD to power it.(it dosent need the red and black usually connected to it)
Also on the wires to the mobo(24 pin) instead of using the full 2" of length I cut them to be 5" so there is no wasted wiring.
Here is a shot if the first time I soldered wiring to the mobo
if you look close you can see the USB/power switch wires also soldered to the mobo (definately frees up the mobo to better airflow)

I have been soldering wires to the mobo for quite a while now and basically my secret is a pretty good understanding of power/electricity. A good example is thismartini161 wrote:are you a god? how can you possibly hide wires that well?

Re: My short Rosewill case mod..
That really is awesome, I've seen the reverse soldering trick before, and it really does make for a clean case.
PCP&C PSU's are legendary, so I'll let you off
Plus the low power components are a winning combination.
What sort of framerates do you get in games then? Maybe a 3dmark score too?

Ok the same hardware (Hdds, memory and GPUs) I get about 90FPS(on max at 1650X1080) on CSS with the Celeron, using my Biostar Tforce mobo and X2 6400(stock) I get 240FPS (just a tad of difference)
I was thinking I would replace the celeron 420 with a C2D 6550 or 6750 (only 65 watts) but I think the whole point was to show 235watts is usable. If I start pushing it to its limits it eventually will fail and I can not afford smoking parts.
I never intended it to be a 235watt Quad core with 8800 for a GPU. I just wanted to show with good choices an inexpensive gamer could be made.
My joy in life is the building part, once done they have no special meaning to me. All I can think of now is what am I gonna throw this hardware into next

Re: My short Rosewill case mod..
Just outta curiosity would it be possible to just unsolder the female side of the plug from the board and put it on the back side of the board? Of course, you'd have to reverse the wiring on the psu plug as well, but it would be easily unplugged after that...
Or perhaps some modders could create something like a right angle adapter that would automatically switch the order of the wires for you. It would make this mod much less daunting as you wouldn't have to worry about keeping wires in the right order, just unsolder and flip the female plug and use an adapter to 'convert' to the right order for you...just an idea...

Re: My short Rosewill case mod..
Alathald that is a very good idea too. I tried in the beginning to swap the plug to the backside but it stuck out too far so I just soldered the wires instead.
My thought always has been to make the parts modular so they have no wires. Just plug the pieces together and voila. I think the design of my Crossflow case is as close as I have come so far.

you are a god of modding.
Too bad you don't enjoy having an awesome computer as much as you enjoy building them... Maybe you should start doing this for a living.

I really enjoy sharing my designs/ideas with others hoping they will improve on them. I am kind of sad that comp design has changed very little since the 386/486 days.
