Painting a HAF

Post by DL13 »

Hi guys, I am going to buy another HAF 932 and paint it the color you see in the pic, now the HAF I got now is a test to see if liquid mask works on the case with out pulling the paint off and pulling the mask off easy, for the word HAF on the side of the case. Well as you can see the end results in the pic and I did get some paint in spots that shouldn't be at  Like I sad it's only a test for the HAF I'm going to get in a month so I don't have to pull every thing out just yet, considering I finally got my ram back from a RMA and it's running smoothly now. So what do you guys think? I like it.

stealin my ideas eh? :P j/k (I was going to do blue but changed my mind on it, wish i didn't in a way)...i was gonna do the HAF lettering but i said screw it and painted over it. ..it will look nice tho when you do it....not sure if you're drilling out the rivets or painting over them, but if you do remove them, be sure to put something between the rivet gun and the case when riveting it together again. Should reduce the chips if the rivet gun pops and hits the paint(happened on mine a few times).

Nice - did you brush or spray? I was thinking of using a small model brush and painting mine wiht the glow-in-the-dark stuff or else some UV paint.

What did you use for the rivet gun? I plan to tack it apart to paint the inside.

I used spray paint. first I used liquid mask to out line the letters. Use UV paint, glow-in-the-dark stuff is only one color and it's ugly.

I found out AFTER i riveted everything back together, but you could use a portion of a sandwich bag as a "washer" so to say..or something that is not too thick, but thick enough to protect it.(don't over tighten the screws either). The other thing is, sliding the hard drive carriers back into place was a PITA. you could bend the empty ones into place without too much paint damage tho. I let the full 7 days pass on the paint to cure, and I still had some issues with the paint chipping in some tiny spots.(False advertising if you ask me) So you might end up with some chips anyway. I did go to Michael's to get some very small fine art brushes to fix the chips. You will still know bout them, but nobody who looks will even notice

Oh yea...if you do paint the bay fasteners(where the disc drive would go)....be careful on how you do those. They are very hard to get back without paint damage to the case or to themselves(was for me anyway). I managed to only get 4 back on because of that. Nothing an art brush bathed the same color can't fix tho

Cool, I'll keep all that in mind when it comes to painting. If the price is still at $139.99 on the 1st of Dec I'm going to buy another HAF just for the job.
Thanks again, I'll post some pic once I'm don.

Thanks for the tip. Sorry if this derails the thread but I have heard about a few people using low profile machine screws. Any experience on them? What kind I should look for? If they will even work as well?
