HAF 922 MOD...

Post by TexasScott »

Hello all, I finished this mod about 2 weeks ago and just wanted to post to see what you guys/gals think..(Anything I could of done better)...I went with the bold Orange so I call it Orange Crush....lol.....Any way I painted the side panels Satin Black and covered the HAF logo as I did not like it and added the clear side window with a 120mm fan....I wanna replace the ribbon cable for the cd/dvd rom to a round cable for a cleaner look..Thanx for taking a look...... :)

That's pretty slick, I was worried about how the orange would look but I like it. Nice job!

Fold and tape/zip tie the IDE cable to make it less noticeable. Or you can always pick up an IDE to SATA adapter.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... -_-Product

This thing is less than $10 on Monoprice but I can't link to them due to server maintenance.

Thanks for the tip about using tape to tidy up that ribbon..That will take care of the ribbon nicely....DUH, did not think about that  ......Thank you for the link to that adapter also,I might have a use for that someday... :)

What kind of paint did you use? Did you use spray cans or actual paint and a gravity feed gun? If spray paint what brand and type (example: Krylon Fusion)? How long did you let it dry before putting the case back together?

I'm asking because I've sprayed a few interior cases with Rustoleum Flat Black and the coats were uneven as hell. This was allowing the case/paint to dry upwards of a week. If you are like me you let the paint dry in the air but with the humidity here in Texas it's hard to keep it from running.

I just used regular KRYLON INDOOR/OUTDOOR paint....And I did it with spray cans...(pita) IM looking into getting a paint gun, already have a compresser for the next time I do this so it will be easier...I sanded the interior down with 60 grit paper with a sander, and sanded some by hand...That roughed up the interior good, then the outside of the case I sanded it down with with the same grit paper...Almost down to the bare metal....Then I put 3 thing coats of primer on it,inside and out....Used RUST-OLEUM automobile primer..I waited 1 day for that to dry...Then I put 4 coats of the Orange gloss on....I waited about 12 hours between coats....Same for the Sating Black side panels....After the last coat of Orange and the Black I waited 1 full day then put 3-4 coats of KRYLON CRYTAL-CLEAR GLOSS on it....That took another 2 days...Then I waited 1 day and put it back together....The clear coat works very well, I did not chip any paint putting it back together...I wet sanded that between coats to get the finish very smooth... I used 2000 grit auto paper....

I had a little trouble with the Orange running in a few spots, but was able to sand it out....I did it inside, but it was humid here, after I got done with a coat I used fans blowing on it to get to dry quicker...So it took about 1 week to get it done and up and running....I used a lot of spray cans....I lost count.....
