Your main concern should be that you did not apply to much thermal paste. As far as smelling isopropyl, not a big deal. So why did you put thermal paste on your ATI x1400? I would not recommend using the thermal pad anymore. Get rid of it and re-apply thermal paste. AS5 is conductive so make sure that it is applied properly.

as mentioned above... I like to use non-conductive thermal past when transistors are close, so I'd suggest that over AS5. I've never used a thermal paste that smelled funny after it was installed... Since yours smells funny I'd suggest opening it up and seeing what happened.

I would not try to sell your rig as is. I think you are just going to make enemies. Keep your rig til you figured it out and don't sell it otherwise. Either keep it or just give it away unless you feel confident that the rig is good to go. As far as the north bridge, I don't know what to do. Never ran into that issue before. You know what you are doing so I think you just have to live with you conscience if you sell it. Edit: Maybe the pad on your north bridge chip is just a spacer so it doesn't short out.

That smell could just be dust in your graphic card. Use some compressed air and see if that helps.

Update replacing other messages:

I think it was all just a smell that came from something inside an ATI x1400 video card, and will dissipate in time. Stirred up some compound. Not sure. Smelled like human BO, kind of spicy.

No, wasn;t dusty in there.... but who knows...
