first mod ever

Post by skier »

This is the first computer case i ever did anything to, when i recieved the case from a friend, it was two tone and had a hole it the top from a jigsaw - rough cut, so i ground the top hole to make it round, it is an antec lanboy case, what do you think modders of the world?

the pictures are rough from me editing the background out
-also, the plexiglass doesn't like it when you paint-sand-paint, only paint once

the symbol is volkl skis

looking good... painting plastic is tough period unless you have the right stuff to prep it with. I love the top window... you need to mod the optical drive and put a window in it too, so you can see the disc spin while you game ;)

so do you snowboard?

<Insert Thread Hi-Jack here>

I love skiing bro. I go twice every year. I need to get up to Whistler this year. Almost bought me some K2 Silencers in January. Probably pick a set up on eBay now that the model years done. Who's bindings do you like? I'm tired of my Markers.

</Insert Thread Hi-Jack here>

Looks good bro. Yeah, painting plastics a pain. My friend recommends using vinyl dye for it actually. Says the plastic tends to soak it up. Me, personally, I'm to lazy and just end up buying black faced drives.

Anyone know anything about annodizing?

I like it. To me, this is modding. And modding should be fun, so spending 1000 hours painting etc... blah. Of course you could do this or that, but you can enjoy it as is. Probably a few lessons learnt too.

If you asked what to consider doing next, personally I like the inside painted as well, usually a very bright color. Even neon green or yellow isn't overly bright when it's mostly hidden. I'd consider using some self-adhesive vinyl carbon over the black, and maybe some adhesive pinstripping too. I'd also consider wrapping my cables in matching neon 'tape' that survey crews use.

Try using a white sheet or something when taking pictures. Although you cropped the background, the reflecting colors on the case make the paint not look as good as it could be.

Great job, have fun!

marker bindings were always the cheap stuff, I got three pairs of volkl race skis with three pairs of salomon bindings- the marker plates are'nt that bad though, i have that on two pairs, (one pair was when Volkl made plates)

any way, yeah my friend that gave me most of my stuff recommended to use vinyl paint, but i did'nt see it at the first place i went, so i just regular- at least the plastic came out awesome

-it took me 2 1/2 hours just to mask the blue off when i did the black

-in the first and last pictures, you can see a reflection of my carpet, and a speaker, and some were taken in my basement(very dark) - didn't think about putting anything around it for pictures, o well

also FYI- do not paint in a basement if you burn wood- its not pretty

Take the drive casing off the CD rom and cut a hole in it, then put it all back together.

Re: first mod ever [Updated]

Post by skier »

ive done a bunch of stuff, so i figured id update
*note the background or lack there of, that would be posterboard from posters and projects on bottom, sides and back*
Clear coat on the whole thing except the window(clear coat destroys the black paint like paint thinner on the window for some reason, and flat is fine by me)
Image

added two Antec Fans from Circut city
