cpu suggestion?

Post by mjc928 »

I was able to get the in win dragon rider through newegg which completes my build. As I was looking through my parts list, I noticed I didn't have a cpu cooler (aside from the stock). Would you reccommend getting an aftermaret cpu cooler? Here are my spec:
*CORSAIR DOMINATOR 8GB (2 x 4GB)
*Asus ATI Radeon HD6970
*Asus Crosshair IV Extreme
*AMD Phenom II X6 Six-Core Processor 1100T
*Thermaltake TRX-1200M TR2 RX 1200W psu
*Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB SATA3
*In Win Dragon Rider case
Now I don't plan to do any hard overclocking so I don't think I need another cpu cooler. I did read a few reviews and I'm considering the noctura nh-d14. What would you suggest? Also would I have to worry about any kind of clearance issues? Thanks again.

Unless you are dead set on staying with AMD you can have similar performance for much less money with a new Intel Sandy Bridge system.

Consider
Core i7 2600K $329.99 or Core i5 2500K if you want to save some money
ASUS P8P67 Deluxe $239.99 or ASUS P8P67 $159.99 if you want to save some money

vs.

AMD 1100T $269
ASUS Crosshair IV Extreme $299.99

The 2600K and Deluxe are identical in price to the 1100T and Crosshair IV Extreme, the 2600K will have much better performance across the board at far lower power consumption. If you look through our review here http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1501/1/ you'll see that the 2600K overclocks effortlessly to 4.3GHz and beyond if you're willing.
The 2500K and P8P67 will have very similar or better performance in mult-threaded apps and much better gaming performance than the 1100T, much lower power consumption, and much lower price.

The DH-14 will be a snug fit in the Dragon Rider and still keep the side panel fan. The DH-14 is a MASSIVE cooler.

Not as quiet, but solid cooler is the CPNS10X Performa will allow for the side panel fan to stay.

If the side panel fan is a non-issue, then the DH-14 is a very nice cooler.
