bad idea?

My PSU seems to be overheating and shutting the system down. The fan seems to be turning really slow and it doesnt seem to be moving much air. Would it be a bad idea to try opening it up and changing the fan?

All depends if it's under warranty. If it is, I would just RMA it. If not, make sure it's drained and pop it open. I did it once on an old psu, swapped the fan and plugged one into a 4pin molex

Its a Corsair that is still under the 5 year warranty. How can I tell for sure that my PSU is in fact overheating? I am playing Mass effect 3 and the whole system has suddenly shut down as if I has flipped the switch off on the power strip. I get no warning or beeps or anything.

Not sure if you have the same utilities as me but Asus has this thing called pc probe II. You might want to give that a try. It tells you all your temps! And your fan speed.

I have an ASUS board and installed that utility. It does not allow for PSU temps. My CPU tem did get up to 62C under load. I changed the fan to a faster one to see if that helps.
