Microsoft's new blogging service, MSN Spaces, emerges from beta to face its competition.

If you wish to blog, you have a number of options. Google picked up Blogger and its approximately 8 million existing blogs. LiveJournal boasts over 6 million users, and Yahoo is developing its 360 service too. Now a new option from the Washington-based tech titan has arrived.

MSN Spaces offers a free blog space, with user-friendly features for basic blog creation, allowing for the inclusion of text and photos. Users can customize access, permitting only your contact list in MSN Messenger to visit. Spaces includes the Trackbacks feature, which may be found in numerous other blogs on the Web.

Bloggers wanting more control over customization may prefer the existing Blogger offerings, as MSN Spaces seems a bit more basic with a limited palette of layouts and themes available. It must also be noted that those wishing to leave comments must have a Passport sign-in to do so; this may deter some of the more Microsoft-averse out there from using it.

Newbies to the blogosphere may wish to go ahead and give MSN Spaces a try.
