Haven't you won something before?

I once won an Xclio Tower case from another great site that's only still up showing archived reviews. (http://www.systemcooling.com) This was a few years ago.

4Gb of USB space is far larger than some of the HDD space on some of the older laptops my son has.

In fact, 4Gb is larger than any of the CD R/W storage I currently have now.

Thank you all for the congrats 8) and a great thank you to Legit Reviews and Corsair Memory for the contest! =D>

TGIF everyone!

It was a long day at work today; the big one step gain and two steps lost. Something was always an obstacle everywhere I turned.

Once home, unwinding and getting into my real job of being just daddy, there was really no time in evening either. However, this job I love since they love me back too. O:) Once story time arrived, the last drink of water, and little tucks putting them into bed, the wife calls me into the next room and gives me a package. :)

Yes, good things do come in small packages. Nate is a packaging expert. Not one seam on the box was exposed while everything inside stayed totally intact.

Upon opening the sealed box, the prize was set before me.

Another shot showing the prize out of the wrapping.

Here's a shot transferring 136Mb in < 14 seconds.

A final shot showing the extreme machined details and the water resistant housing. 8)

Again, a BiG, Thank you =D> to both Legit Reviews and Corsair Memory for an excellent prize in this contest. :supz:

I've done some looking at the HoH Corsair forums. This is the second generation Survivor product. The main change was the machined aircraft aluminum housing. There is no longer a so called cap that could get lost, but now the new design uses a long cylinder like a shot-gun shell with internal threads. This is an exteremly robust design. Corsair has done their homework again to make the product even better.

One review site took a Survivor USB device and dropped it from a roof onto a concret driveway. A little scratch, but everything worked great. It was then dropped into a swimming pool of 12ft with failure either. And the rugged test of a SUV driving over it up to two times passed to retreive the data, but a set of vice grips had to open the product up. Hey, any of my other USB thumb/jump drives would die with any of those tests! This Corsair product is SWEET. :)

BTW, I have found a really neat little program that benchmark tests data transfer, read, and write speeds to any type of drive. This will work with USBs, cards in a card reader, normal hard drives and CD or DVD drives.

http://freespace.virgin.net/roy.longbottom

The program is called DiskGraf for the drives and CDDVDSpd for the discs.

To test a drive, copy the extracted zip directory to the drive and run.

The program has user input values to test for various blocks and bits of data too! This is handy if you use a USB to transfer a certain alotment of file types to the drive and compare a differnt set too. :)

It's a little quirky until you understand how the data is saved to retrieve. But for FREE shareware with no purchase, I can't complain!

Peace!

Stev

:) Yes, I just have to keep below Sandisk's radar now.

As for the pictures, I truely believe people who win a contest need to show the prize well without too much fanfare and respect to the providers of the contest. Plus it helps the user community to actually see more details of the product. :mrgreen:

I hope to have some data transfer rates posted here within the next week. The data will be based on Win98SE USB 1.1, Win XP USB 1.1 and Win XP USB 2.0 data rates. I'll compare a few of the thumb/jump drives too. The Survivor should do very well.

The first quick read/write data tests are in for USB 2.0 on Win-XP SP2

Test done with Calibrate Test DiskGraf Version 1.3A
Program by Roy Longbottom

Write and Read two 4 MB files, 64 KB Block Size

Lexar Impact 128mb (USB 1.0, 1.1 & 2.0 compatible)
Write = 0.54mb/sec
Read = 0.87mb/sec

Lexar Sport 128mb (USB 1.1 & 2.0 compatible)
Write = 1.68mb/sec
Read = 12.16mb/sec

Scandisk Cruzer 1Gb (USB 1.1 & 2.0 compatible)
Write = 3.78mb/sec
Read = 18.10mb/sec

Corsair Survivor 4Gb (USB 1.1 & 2.0 compatible)
Write = 3.83mb/sec
Read = 29.00mb/sec

The more 4Mb files tested in the loop, the better the Corsair Suvivor shines during the write data rate. :P

The Corsair Survivor wins the head-of-the-pack in the test sampling. Knowing that the GT version is better, Corsair still leads-the-pack! :)
