RAID worth it?

How much speed do you really gain and is it noticeable? What kind of things are affected by raid 0? I'm interested in doing it.
I have 2 sata seagate 320gb drives.
what are the goods?

I'm assuming you are talking about a RAID 0 configuration. Nope. In many cases it doesn't make much difference if any at all unless you are using them as a server. There are many articles about it on the web.

The good:
In SOME circumstances, it can be faster (not gaming usually).

The bad:
It can be a pain to correctly set up.
You need 2 drives (more cost)
You have doubled the risk of losing your data as you are depending on 2 drives to maintain your data spilt among them.

I say no. Working with servers raid, really isnt worth it. You open up many other doors for something to go wrong i.e. raid card failure. I have seen many cases where a raid setup went down beyond repair and the drives werent at fault. Also a lot of people think RAID is a backup plan, which it isnt. If you want to experiment with it, go for it. But i suggest not. It isnt worth the time and especially the money.

It can be a pain, but you can notice an increase in read times with even an onboard raid setup. here is a little article on raid if you want to check it out.
