Doctor , Is my Poor little USB Pen drive certified??

Post by tele »

My HP w120 4GB pen drive refused to be format and some mp3 files on it became write protected files
I tried virus scan, stop it from auto run on xp, setting the file property but nothing work
so I tried to get it back to work with my Ubuntu "testdisk" programe, still there is no luck.

Since a computer noob like me do not understand what the testdisk log tell me about my poor little pen drive
Doctor please help me find out if it is dead, or is there a remedy to save my pen drive , I knew a pen drive is cheap but
I do not want to throw it away if it can be fixed, Mr Earth is very sick now, one more false pen drive rubbish is too many.
Doctor please help :prayer: :prayer: Thank you very much for your time, the log is a bit long

below is the log of the testdisk:

Try burning Gparted to a CD and boot from it with your USB device plugged in.

Try formatting the USB stick, with that program.

It's been my experience that if gparted can't help you then the drive is very poorly. (You might have to throw this one away after all)

I've had a couple of pen drives that I thought were fubar (did the same thing as yours in gparted) that I managed to save but I'll be damned if I remember how...I think I had used the dd command to basically force it to wipe and partition the drive. I'll do some looking and see if I can recall how I did it. Then again, it could just be a dead drive.

Warning though, if there is one command that could destroy the world, it would be dd...or maybe "import skynet" :axe:
