when do the SATA III @6Gb/s hard drives come out?
I am building a new rig since I canceled my apple I-mac order. I wanted to buy a western digital black 2 tb drive but I can't seem to find one on line without a 1month wait. What's going on? Should I just buy a 300gb WD raptor instead? Or should I wait and see if SATA III @6Gb/s are going to be released soon.

Already available. Seems that the Caviar Blacks are still better though.

Based on prelim testing SATA 6.0 does provide a big improvement as we expected. Only real difference is the increased burst rate.
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.

Do you have a SATA 6Gbps board?
If you do you can't boot a RAID array from the current Marvell SATA 6Gbps controller as I showed in this article - http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1139/1/
Also if you look at a SATA 6Gbps drives performance on the Marvell controller versus the Intel ICH10R chipset the difference is small - http://www.legitreviews.com/article/1127/1/
Boards today only have two SATA 6Gbps headers, only the Seagate XT drives have SATA 6Gbps support right now and you can't boot RAID off the current controller/driver/BIOS....
I personally would wait and not do my next build with this is a feature as something to build around. I got both the Gigabyte and ASUS solutions here and plenty of drives and I'm not impressed by what I am seeing so far.

Seems like it's a ways off from being a huge improvement. Maybe a few more gens of SSD's and then we'll see something awesome.

Re: when do the SATA III @6Gb/s hard drives come out?
vbironchef's right, intel just has muddied the waters with the LGA1156 i7's.
