Yes I know the answer. Duu 7200RPM is faster. I am getting a External HD for college. Here are some I have in mind:

I was thinking of the Segate because of the 16MB Cache. One question is am I wasting the ability of USB 3.0 with 5400RPM will that limit the USB speeds?

Is the Cache not much of a deal? I've never used Hitachi so I don't know if they are any good. How are they in reliability?

For a backup drive I don't see cache being a big deal at all. If you plan on running programs from that drive maybe, but not for storing.

I don't think you'll ever know the difference to be honest. If 5400 RPM or small cache sizes on hard drives cause issues with video playback you'd see people complaining and being upset on forums as most notebooks over the years came with 5400 RPM drives as they used less power and made less noise.
We have a review of the HITACHI Touro Mobile Pro 500G being posted next week though.

Seagate has a 5900 RPM drive. I've been using the 2TB version for awhile and it seems to be quite fast for a non 7200 RPM drive. There is a review at http://www.storagereview.com/seagate_ba ... t2000dl003.
