So I just purchased the SSHD in the title. now something I want to ask before I install my OS onto it is, would I still need and paging file or not?

YES

I tried no paging on mine with a 512gb crucial and some programs still throw up problems. I just dont get it, especially when I have 32gb of memory installed. Windows just sucks at memory management. So the short answer is yes, the long answer is, I have no idea why you have to have it but if you dont you may run into problems as you are using more and more programs or things are running in the background or windows decides to take all the memory you have and then tell programs they dont have enough memory to run

ok thanks for the info. set my pagefile to 1gb as I really never see my page file more than 2gb while on desktop and 80% of that is from memory.

I THINK there are programs that are hard coded to go partially into the pagefile rather than all into memory. Mostly business type apps and 32bit apps though; at least from what I've been seeing at my work. It's one of the things we noticed when we enabled full disk encryption on every desktop, the massive slowdown of some apps, even on systems with more than enough memory.

possibly the most unlucky guy around I am. this HDD just had a major spin up fatality today. the drive started fine however, it got louder and louder then an almighty ping and the drive is toast. it seems the disk just decided to spin up well over 10000rpm I'd say

OUCH!! I hate hard drive failures. I dont think I will build systems using straight SSD for a boot drive and a way to image the drive so restoring would be easy.

I hope the warranty process goes fast for you.

it seems that the drive is still working. after going about sorting an RMA, the company I got it from said the drive is working fine. and have said they will refund me as that was the last one they had in stock due to it being so popular at £40.
