The temperature is fine. If you are worried about it and don't mind added noise download EVGA's Precision software and turn up the fan's speed.

80C is not to bad for a 8800 running a load.
I have an 8800GTX and when it gets in the upper 80's I give it a rest but, thats not very often!
I run my fan around 65% trying to keep it cool and quiet at the same time!
Mine does duty as a GPU Folder and its usually right around 80c, @ Idle it will drop to the upper 50's.
I use EVGA's Precision also....You can manually control the fan or set it to auto, whatever is best for you!

80 is way too high for my liking.

My 8800GT never goes over 65 when fully loaded. Replacing the stock TIM with better stuff helped alot.

i've had each of my GSO's above 110C before for various reasons(fan was hung up on a spare wire for HDaudio, TVtuner blocked air flow entirely(got to 112 for almost two days straight folding), fan got unplugged once) G92 cards can handle the heat no prob

I agree with this post! 80c may be a safe temp, but I wasn't satisfied with it being that hot. I feel as though running consistently at that temp may shorten the life of the card.

I have an xfx 8800GT which ran hot (~80c at load). The card was already loud so increasing the fan speed wasn't an option. Also note that my card came with a 2-pin fan header, which does not allow for changes in fan speed (tried using rivatuner). So I picked up a Zalman ZF900, the temp dropped over 15c and I have been a happy camper ever since. Amazing difference and well worth the cash.

as mentioned above replacing the stock TIM (thermal interface material) with some good quality arctic silver 5 or the like will do an amazing job of lowering temps infact thats the first thing i do when i buy any hardware with an HSF on a chip pull it off and replace the tim on all of them also make sure you have plenty of airflow through your case as there's nothing worse for temps than a stuffy case
