Source: The InqYOU HAVE TO SWITCH you driver development to .NET if you want to prepare for Longhorn. ATI was criticised for its new Catalyst Control Center since apart from nice looking features its new driver brought slower execution. But we've learned that Nvidia is doing the same at the moment.
It's not that ATI just wanted to make an adventurous move - it's actually something that all graphic card manufactures will have to do sooner or later.
We learned that ATI had its concerns that Nvidia might be faster in its .NET development since it wanted to be the first one to bring those new features. It will be in the hall of fame too for new features, but is also likely to be criticised over driver speed.
As ATI is holding back with its Shader model 3.0 hardware I have the strong belief that Nvidia is using a sit and wait tactic with its new drivers.
Longhorn is something that you will have to support whether you like it or not - it is still going to come in around two years.
We don’t have any indication when this Nvidia driver is going to be introduced but it should not be that long. This time Nvidia can also use wait tactics.

Nvidia is making .NET driver
I know some of you thought ATI was crazy for making a driver that uses .NET 1.1, but it looks like nVidia is doing the same thing.
