socket 479 help

Post by hercules71185 »

I'm helping out a friend who has this socket in his laptop. Any C2Ds or p4s? something faster than his 1.4 celeron m it has in it.
Trying to find something reasonably priced

You are looking at trying to get a Core Duo (note, not core 2 duo). That or a Pentuim M.

So one of these:
Core Duo's

Or one of these:
Pentium M's

Good hunting!

Dan

Edit: Actually, it depends on what FSB speed the board has/supports. You may be limited to a Pentium M if the board hasn't got a BIOS update that can support the Core Duo's.

Based on the speed of the Celeron chip, I'd have thought that it was actually socket 479 rather than P or M.

...quick fact checking...

Yeah, just found a list of the processors, and there is only one celeron M that operates at 1.4Ghz, and that is the Celeron M 360. And that is a Socket 479.
Celeron M 360 1400 MHz 1024 KiB 400 MT/s 14x 1.26 V 21 W Socket 479 August 31, 2004 RH80536NC0171M

the socket has 479 pins, but the chips only use 478. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_479

Yeah, but its official name is Socket 479. What are you getting at?

if u know what chipset it is using i can tell u what it can support

i85xxx = Pentium M 400FSB/Celeron M 400FSB
i91xxx = Pentium M 533FSB/Celeron M 533FSB
i945xx = Core 2 Duo 667/533FSB FSB / Core Duo 667 FSB/533FSB / Core Solo 533FSB / Celeron M 533FSB
i943/940 = Core 2 Duo 533FSB FSB / Core Duo 533FSB / Core Solo 533FSB / Celeron M 533FSB
i965xx = Core 2 Duo 800FSB/533FSB FSB / Core Duo 533FSB / Core Solo 533FSB / Celeron M 533FSB

Its actually called the socket 479. I don't know what else I can be specific about. Yes it has 478 pins as does the socket 478. but, there is no adapter to go from 479 to 478. Only 478 to 479. the pin set ups are different. the processor is the same one Dan called the celeron m 340 @1.4 in the socket 479 format. I'm checking out some of the links and then I will write back. Thanks to all

Knowing the chipset like allenpan said will narrow down the choices to what CPU the board will support.

So if you don't know it, try to find out :axe:

Oh yeah, I was right matt >;-)

Yeah well, there'd be more backlash from that for you than me 8-)

Tis all in good fun ^_^ :drinkers:

btw, you can get rid of the "Beaker Image taken down temporarily to pay tribute to the 2007 World Series Champion Boston Red Sox" from your sig now that your avatar is changed back.

Figure I'd leave it up, because after the the Pat's Win tomorrow I'll have to add them to the list (A drink champagne just to spit Shula), and make a nice little picture that shows both.
