My Laptop has mediocre battery time, please help.

Hello, My Dell Inspirion 5150 only has a battery life of about 2 and a half hours when its rated to have 5 hours. When running the laptop i have the brightness all the way set to low and it still has poor perfmormance. could anyone give me some suggestions as to what i could do to improve it.

battery could be going bad...given a little more time, it could go out. also, does this laptop have Centrino technology? If so, then that's what I would think, because the Centrino technology is made for battery life, and when a battery life, fully-charged, is rated at 5 hours, then that should be accurate. The best way to test that is to let it fully charge overnight, and then see how long you can make it on the battery alone. It's merely a double-check, you know? Also, make sure speed-step is on, as that's a component of the technology. if all else fails, then I would look at a battery.
