Official 1558j winning thread

Post by Dragon_Cooler »

I want to say thanks for everything!!
The winner will have to purchase a processor, memory, hard drive, and a wifi card to be able to use the notebook. The winner of the notebook is also required to post photos of the notebook once it is built or Legit Reviews will never do a contest like this again. The winner of this notebook will love it!
For those asking or thinking about asking, I appreciate your interest, but no i am not going to sell it. Legit reviews asks to build on the lappy and write reviews on it and i am going to do just that to help them out. Its the least i can do for them for giving away a 600$ prize. Besides i need a laptop!

As i get parts i will post and keep yall up to date (or if yall want i can wait till everything is in and then post pics). All i can say is I am excited!!

post step-by-step pics Dragon, I'm pretty sure the majority of the forum would appreciate it, just to see how the build is coming along :)

nice card there Mr. Cooler, lol.

now, as far as finding it cheaper, I would look on Zipzoomfly or somewhere like that as Newegg doesn't have it right now. I'll be considering that card myself if the chassis I get to build my whitebook doesn't have a wireless card.

btw, on a totally unrelated note: got my 1 GB PNY Attache flash drive home today, and I must say even over USB 1.1, it saves information faster than a floppy ever could, and stores a hell of a lot more, so a good consideration for portability.....thank God for massive advances in portable storage :)

just felt like sharing that with everyone

well, you know the egg has them, right? That's where I got my flash drive...hell, it proved useful today for sure, as my printer decided it didn't want to feed paper and had to backup crucial assignments that were due today, lol. same with SATA HDD's, they got em there too

Any of these will work I believe: link

The ASUS one with WPA2 looks nice. :P

As for SATA notebook drives: link or link (look for the Momentus models)

I don't understand the point though, cabling is a non-issue in notebooks, and there's no real performance advantage to SATA for 5400PRM drives, so I see no reason to pay more for SATA drives. :P

Seriously? No IDE? :?

Well... I guess you could go for these:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... e=100524-4
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... e=100519-4

There's also these, but they're all out of stock:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=101598
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=101520

What exactly do you need a 7200RPM drive for anyway?
Not gonna try to game on that with the Intel graphics are ya? :P

oh no, i just want fast boot and shutdown and stuff. no gaming at all, i have a desktop that will do that. besides, college is some serious stuff

and i cant find the specs on the laptop since they changed it at aopens website, so i dont know if it is sata only.

but thank you for those links, i might just get a 7200rpm instead of 5400, better performance!

The advantage of the intel cards is the power saving that goes with centreno. because the cpu, chipset, and wireless card are all intel they are able to communicate and save on power.

the how-to's are in-depth though, so I don't think you'll have any problems when you go to build it....just install the HDD, WNIC, processor, and memory....nothing to it, lol :)
