Suggestion, please?

Post by sanghyuk2 »

I am trying to get a new notebook, but I find it VERY frustrating since
I do not know much about notebook
please, help me :(

budget : $950 - 1050
purpose : mostly internet, office, MATLAB, and some gaming
(some 3D games - but not like doom3/farcry/hl2)
looking for : btween 12-14inches, mobility, descent spec for my
price range
also : I'm AMD fan, but doesn't mind getting intel, but AMD seems
always cheaper!

so I researched and the following two interested me...

CPU Type: AMD Turion64 MT-30 (1.6GHz)

Memory Size: 512MB DDR (2x256 I think)
Operating System: Windows XP Home
Optical Drive: DVD/CD-RW Combo

Screen: 13.3''XGA TFT

2. AVERATEC AV4155-EH1
$950

Communication: Modem, LAN and WLAN
CPU Type: Turion 64 MT-30(1.6GHz)

Hard Disk: 80GB 4200 rpm
Memory Size: 512MB DDR
Operating System: Windows XP Home
Optical Drive: DVD¡¾R/RW Drive
Screen: 13.3" Wide XGA LCD
Weight: 4.2lbs

3. Compaq Presario v2000z
about $1000
Turion 64 ML-30
14" Widescreen XGA Display (1280x768)
128 MB Shared ATI RADEON XPRESS 200M
512 MB Shared RAM (1x512) (Later Upgraded To 1024 MB)
60 GB 4200 RPM Toshiba Hard Drive
DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive
Broadcom 54g 802.11 b/g WLAN w/ SpeedBooster
12-Cell Battery
Altec Lansing Speakers

Q1. which one of those three is thes best? (which one would you get?)
Q2. Is there a better notebook than those three at same price range?
Q3. did you hear anything about a company called TWINHEAD? (they are the only company with 14 inches barebone that I found)
Q4. do you konw if MSI MS-1013 Barebone Notebook is worth getting?
Q5. all those notebooks upthere has 4200 rpm... can you physically feel the difference between 4200 rpm and 7200 rpm?

do yourself a favor and pick up a dell Inspirion 9300 you can pick it up right in your budget and can upgrade the graphics to either a 6800 Ultra or a 7800GTX at your own pace. also with this laptop you can drop in a Dothan 735 and it will pin mod right to 2.26 ghz without a real issue.

and just for the record that is exactly what I am using as I type this.

it is probably the best gaming laptop for the money. with both of the above listed upgrades you can compete and blow away just about anything with a 2k price tag and more.
