Looking for new laptop recomendations

Post by stlgirl »

I have a friend that is getting ready to purchase her first laptop. She will be doing some traveling as she is just now finishing culinary school. I don't think she will have an interest in gaming on her laptop. Though I think she is just looking for a very well rounded laptop. She would like to keep her price at or below $1,300.00

It will be used for basic needs email, web surfing, downloading and burning music, writing food reviews, storing and editing photos, watching dvd's, etc.

I purchased a dell 9300I about 6 months ago and am very pleased with it, as it suits my needs quite nicely. Though Dell is no longer making the inspirion 9300. So I wanted to ask Nathan and the rest of the LR staff as well as forum members for some advice, opinion, and help.

Thanks in advance for all of your help!

Well, the one I bought for my sister works nicely, and it was $1,346 or something like that. And the parts are even a little cheaper now.

It was:
MSI MS-1029
AMD Turion 64 MT-37
768 mb ram
60 or 40 gb hard drive (don't remember  )
and the MSI bluetooth wireless card

I built it myself (still have to pictures up.)

You could probably get a Core 2 Duo one for around that though, depending on what chassis you use.

That's all even if you want to build yourself, which I do recommend, it's fun!
AMD Opteron 1224SE "Santa Ana" = DFI Lanparty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G
Crucial Ballistix 4x1GB DDR2 800 = Corsair CMPSU-750TX
Sapphire 4870 1GB = Sceptre X20WG-Naga 20" = Logitech X-530 5.1
Seagate 320GB (SATA II) x2 = Samsung SH-S203B (SATA)

I'm still open for any other ideas of advice on a laptop in the $1,300 range.

Thanks
