So now that Nvidia has released the 470-480

Post by DX »

SO now that Nvidia has released the 470-480 cards what will ATI be putting out to CRUSH the launch of these cards? The 5870 has been out for a while and I'm hoping that ATI has been working on something that will steal Nvidia's thunder like Nvidia has done to ATI so many times in the past.

I guess the HD 5970? I don't know if ATI even needs to do anything right now because their DirectX 11 GPUs have been out many months before Nvidia's GTX 4XX cards and yet Nvidia doesn't beat them out by a large margin. I guess ATI's price, power consumption, and heat output are all that is needed for now.

I think mainly, AMD's partners just needs to drop their prices down to MSRP, since all their 5xxx series cards are selling for above MSRP right now. After that, they should be able to maintain sales against the 470-480 as their cards are comparable, for less cash.

I was hoping for big (or bigger) price drops when the Fermi cards came about.

ASUS's facebook page is implying that there are massive revisions possible to the 5800 series on non-reference models
