why not pick up a 9800pro for 200, you get the card now not in 3mths and its almost as good as the 9800xt.

Apoptosis saved me from wasting my money about 2 months ago when I wanted to get the 9600xt. With it on sale for the weekend and a 50$ rebate i got the 9800pro (128meg) for 200. Now I want 256megs!

And the 9800pro 256 can be modded into a XT with a bios flash. And from what I've read the Asus is the best one for the job........

don't hold your breath on any price drops soon. The R420's haven't hit the market in force yet. I'd expect the big push to come end of summer. July/Aug is a good time for price cuts. It's also the time HL2 will be out and college students are getting PC's for college. 9800Pro 256mb with a flash to an XT is the way to go.
