Sapphire TriXX + XFX 5850 = voltage tweak??

Post by lordvic »

I decided to download TriXX to see if I can use the voltage overclock for my non-reference XFX 5850 ZAFC. MSi Afterburner wouldn't allow me to increase the voltage. I changed to voltage a little bit and checked with GPU-Z..and guess what!! Voltage goes up!

I'm not sure if it really does adjust the voltage, or it's just a bug...because TriXX does not suppost voltage tweak for the Radeon HD 5000 sries and below; only the new HD 6000 series.

Can any confirm that it's actually working, and not just displaying it?

I took my chances and tried to see if the over-volting works or not.
Set it to 1.2v, 880MHz Core, 1200MHz memory. Ran 3DMark11.
Usually anything past 850MHz on the core would cause 3DMark11 to create artifacts & crash on the last test, resulting in my system to reboot.
By adjusting the voltage to 1.2v, 880MHz Core ran 3DMark11 without any problems! ~100 more points for 3DMark11!!

For those in the future who may be asking this again...
Sapphire TriXX allows the user to increase the voltage for (so far I've figured out/researched):
- non-reference XFX 5850's (ZAFC, ZABC, ZNFC)
- some XFX 5870's, Sapphire Vapor-X 5870
- non-reference sapphire 5830 100297SR (a.k.a. Modern Warefare 2 Edition)
- non-reference HIS 4870
- couple of non-reference XFX 4850 (the ones with black PCB and black shroud that leads the warm air to the back of the case)

I'll try my reference design (single slot) Sapphire 4850 512MB later and see if it works on that also.
