Help with temps on x800xl

Post by Racerboyf1 »

Just wondering if I should be concerned. I started messing with ati tool today and was running up the speeds on my x800xl. According to ati tool idle temps are around 53c, but under load the temps run up to around 85c. Should I be worried? Stock speeds it will run up to 74c under load. Here are my current specs:

Asus p4c800e deluxe
p4 3.2e @ 3.4
2 WD caviar 200gb sata hd
ati x800xl
1gb (2 x 512mb) Corsair pc3200xl pro
Antec trupower 480watt psu

Any help would be great.

sounds pretty hot to me, even at idle, how much do you have it oc'd? I have an x800 gto flashed to an x800xt clocked at 573/540(1080) almost 850xtpe ram and past that on the core. but mine idles at 34 degrees celcius and around 40-mid 50's max under full load on games. so yeah that sounds really hot have you looked up temps on that card for other people?

check this site out about temps on teh x800xl some of them don't support temperature monitoring at all. so it maybe malfunctioning.

about the earlier post I am running an arctic cooler rev 5 (whatever one it is for x800's) and it could be making my temps lower than average for the x800 models and mines a .13 micron process type and yours a .11. however I do think those soudn high. is your fan running on that? nad what version of ati tool are you using, I have .25 beta 10. It seems to be working well.

The card is bone stock ati. Not sure what version of ati tool I'm running as I'm at work today. Best stable clock I've been able to run is 425/530. Stock is 400/490. Thanks for the input.

I have been looking at an upgraded air cooler (ARCTIC COOLING AVC-AT5 Rev. 2 72mm Ceramic High Performance VGA Cooler for ATi) from newegg for $37.00. It looks like it should do the trick. Any comments on it?

I also need to clean up the wiring in the case. I'm pretty sure the airflow is pretty poor in there right now. It's only running 1 120mm intake fan at the front and 1 120mm exhaust fan at the back.

Thanks

that gfx cooler is cool 8)

They are very quiet and give super performance....they also exaust the heat outside the case........it will give better performance and lower noise!

2x 120mm fans should be fine for keeping the case cool also.

Cool, I'll order it today.

The intake fan blows right over the HD's. I'm thinking I should add a fan to the side of the case.

when anybody experiences heat like that, they should allways check what's under the cooler first. I mean, there could be the dried up thermal compound on the GPU or even no thermal compound at all (I saw it once). so carefully remove the cooler, clean the GPU and the undrneath of the sink with clean alcohol and reapply the thermal copmpound/paste (preferably arctic silver). if that doesn't help, start thinking about getting a better cooler if you don't want one day to find your card fried

hehe, it's an asus starice blue and I'm pretty happy with its performance. it keeps my prescott @ 32C idle and 44C full load (OC'd to 3.71Ghz).

Wow!-The Arctic Cooler is amazing. Full load does not go over 55c when clocked to 441/552. Idle stays around 39c overclocked and about 34c stock. It was so easy to install as well (only took me about 20 minutes). This cooler is amazing.

AC does make some really good products. I had one on my X800XL before I switched to water and I'm still running one on my 9800Pro.

You should be pretty happy with those temps.

I have been messing with it all night. Right now I have the card running at 456/564 with no issues at all. Bumped the cpu up to 3.6 as well. Upgraded the cooling on the cpu. System seems totally stable. I'll have to play around with it more tomorrow.
