Quick Question about Gpu Temps

Post by dgood »

I have my x800xt (once gto) clocked up to 570/1100, but I moved it down to what you see on my sig. I use ATI tool and an arctice cooler for my card. I was curious what temperature is too much. When I gaem for really any tiem at all ATI tool registeres my card at running in teh upper 70's in celcius. I think I hit 80 a couple times when it was fully overclocked. I was curious if this sounded a littl ehot to you because not being one to monitor temperatures normally I thought that sounded warm. even at default clocks for the x800xt (500/1000) it seems to get the same temperatures really. -Dgood

70s and 80s are too high, 60s should be max

id agree, 60s are MAX. i have a x850 (flashed to XT PE). idle temps i get low 30s and in game i get high 50s. I have also put on a new GPU hsf, ZALMAN VF900. I would suggest getting one of those to lower temps. I had an Arctic cooler on, but the fan pooped out on me. The Zalman was WAY easier to install than the arctic cooler. i didnt even need a screw driver to install the new one. it was really really easy.
comp specs- too lazy to make a cool looking sig... GFX cards are rated for ~100C

My card does ~85 to 90C in 3D and ~70C when folding. This is with the stock cooler. I had a x800xtx and an 7800GTX which also had the same kinda temps.
Lower temps is always better but GPU chips are very robust!

so its running hot but not too dangerous at least. thats good to know, i have liek 5 case fans also but I think I just have a lot of stuff crammed into my case, and the mod probably causes a bit more heat than the x800gto originally would have produced before being flashed to an x800xt.

look just like with everything else, the cooler the temps, the more reliable and better the performance. also just because the card can take higher temperatures, doesn't mean it will for a long time. the higher the temp - the shorter the lifespan :)
you should try lowering the temps under 60C
