PS3 - $100 price drop? CONFIRMED and new 80GB coming too

Post by KnightRid »

http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/05/ps3- ... cuit-city/

Didnt know if this should be in Legit Deals or not since this might be a price drop for everyone.

FINALLY

Mike

my thoughts, because I know you just love how I think :finga:

Not enough. They should have reduced it by $200 to even get close to selling the unit like they want. Built in blu-ray is killing it. Remove the bluray and make it external like the xbox360, drop the price of the console by at least $200 ( $300 or more wit the cost of the bluray coming out ) and make a go at it.

http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/07/06/ps3 ... or-499-99/

Some targets have it for $499 now, but YMMV on that.

WOOHOO $500...oh wait, thats still about $300 more than I want to pay. Back to the PS2.. :P

Sony loses money for each console sold, so I don't see it dropping too much more unless the cost of the blu ray player goes way down

Some have said that Sony is denying now so it can announce it at E3 - will be able to see soon enough :)

60GB PS3 price drop is to clear out remaining 60GB models... once that stock runs out, only the more expensive 80GB will remain on the retail shelf. This model will use software emulation, rather then the E-motion chip to play the older PS/PS2 games.

$100 is all that Sony will drop, so as to not be cheaper than the XBox 360... If you compare the 2 systems, the PS3 has more value for only $20 more (Blu-Ray, bigger HD compared to the 360 Elite's regular DVD and smaller HD).

That being said, the PS3 is still way too expensive for me, but so is the 360. It's Wii for me :)

the ps3 came out before its time
blue ray shouldn't of been in a console for a another 3 years
the hard drive size is fine
i like the controllers a lot better then the 360
but for the new price they still should add something into it

are you serious? THAT is what made BD popular, and made people realize it was better in most ways to HDDVD
a 1 year delay would have been.....allright, but even that would piss people off, besides, Sony had to compete with the 360, so they weren't about to delay it just because it was using a brand new medium, but then again, the 360 was the first to have HDDVD in gaming, should they have delayed too?

why are all these old threads being "revived"?
and the other thing is: remember, there are plenty of other things that influenced the HDDVD v BD battle, like the porn industry (don't ask why i would know this 8-[ ) and the fact that better movies were coming out for BD with (barely) more features. and the price of BD players went down a lot faster than HDDVD players, most likely out of competition, and sales were bad, but nonetheless.

Sony delayed launching the PS3 as it was. Unlike MS that rushed the 360 to market, while knowing that it had a serious flaw (have you seen all the RROD's?).

I don't care much for either console, if I had to get one, it'd be the updated chipset 360. If anything I'm a Nintendo fanboi :P

But I am glad sony included BR with the PS3 so that it could give a large user base for BR. Which has helped it loads on the way to winning the format war. And with sony's updated new smaller better br laser diode HDDVD is left with practically no advantages over it. For once the better format is winning out.

I would say that bluray has pretty much won the format war BECAUSE of the PS3. There would be no bluray players out there without the PS3 because of the price of a standalone player.

Wouldn't take long if it was a contest to dig up the oldest thread on the site. The immature part of me wants to do that now, but It'd be frowned upon :P

Having made 23 posts just today, I don't think it'd matter much :P

Counting up how many posts I've done today has made me realise my addiction to LR >_<
