Xbox 360...

Post by kappage »

Well the xbox 360 has gone back twice before, once covered by warranty the other not. The first time it was scratching up discs, and the second timeit went back because it would not work in colour! Everything was jsut in black and white, this time they charged an arm and a leg to fix it because it was about a week out of warranty... This time it has got the three red rings of death since the xbox was purchased on the 19 of June 2006 it might have to be paid for and not covered by the extended warranty. You would think that after spend $600 odd Au dollar on it you would be able to just play it until it dies from old age (just like my old PS1 never had any problems with that....) ](*,) ](*,) ](*,)

you could go here and give this a try....http://www.consoleshop.com/product.php?productid=20703 ... a toolkit to fix the RROD...whether it's actually good enough to fix the issue not sure(since i don't have an xbox360) i figured it might be better than having to wait for microsoft again..

after reading this review http://www.360-hq.com/article2703.html about the kit, it doesnt really seem like a kit other then two screw drivers and some rubber feet which will hopefully fix the xbox.

I called the Xbox 360 Support line and about 30 minutes after waiting and talking to some one i was able to sort of "argue" with them and i got it free of charge. At first they wanted me to pay for it but then i just spoke to them and was able to get it free!

If i was actually going to be charged $100 and something i would get my hands on some screw drivers that would do it and jsut do this myself. But now i will be sending the xbox away and then waiting a few months..

If you get it back, and it is completely out of warranty, I'd seriously think about cracking it open and installing some kind of additional cooling in it.
Just swapping the thermal paste has to be good for a couple of degrees if nothing else.

from what i can understand they actually solder the Heatsink to the GPU and CPU chips, well if they dont what is the problem with the solder from melting? so it has to be soldered on

I think the solder unmelting is actually the physical contacts from the chip to the motherboard. Or that is my understanding of it.

I wouldn't have thought the heatsink was soldered to the core though as there are a few mods of the cooling for 360's that I've seen around (namely watercooling).

Could give this a try.

Also, I would think a notebook cooler would do wonders for the air flow...maybe build yourself a basic one :drinkers:

Why would you put that much money into a console? it does look pretty cool though.
