corsair pc2-8500 dominator ram question?

Post by smokin_mitch »

I'm using 2, 2x1gb kits and they are identical but in cpu-z in the SPD tab memory slot 1 & 2 are different from 3 & 4 in 1 area the (Trc) is this ok?
i have the memory timings set to auto.

corsair ram in slots 1 and 2 timings
frequency 533
cas# latency 5.0
ras# to cas# 5
ras# precharge 5
Tras 15
trc 22
command rate 2t

corsair ram in slots 2 and 3 timings
frequency 533
cas# latency 5.0
ras# to cas# 5
ras# precharge 5
Tras 15
trc 30
command rate 2t

as u can see the TRC is different between ram in slots 1&2 and 3&4 is this ok?

Its not going to do any harm, but check in your BIOS if you can manually set the Trc. If you can, then you might want to set them the same. They should all be able to run at the lower 22 setting, but you can choose to tighten the timings even more if you choose to (just make sure that you stability test with memtest or something if you are dropping them low)

LR did a piece a while back about what the TRC actually does, so you can read that here.

ok I changes the Trc on my memory to 15

in cpu-z on the Memory tab it shows up as Trc 15

but under SPD tab still says memory in slot 1&2 Trc is 22, and in slot 3&4 Trc 30

might be problem with cpu-z maybe?

If you are running the latest version of CPUz then I don't think so.

If it is just on the SPD page then that is just what the manufacturers have programmed into the memory for it to tell boards to run it at. As you've manually set it to something else it ignores this data. For example, on my PC2-6400 800Mhz RAM one of the SPD's reads 1000Mhz (PC2-8000), which is a bit silly if you ask me (the RAM is running as it should at the 800Mhz).

if you have it set to 15 in the BIOS the TRC is running at that on all the slots.. Using a program to read the SPD will just read the SPD values that are set by the factory.... no worries on this one. Just remember the SPD tab shows the SPD settings and nothing more.
