Modules Break Out

Post by aticotech »

I'm currently running 2GB (2x1GB) of Corsair TWIN2X2048-8500C5 (DDR2-1066/PC2-8500) on a Asus P5N32 E SLI and I want to increase to 4GB of RAM. Is it better to just get another match pair, or order a 4GB kit (2x2GB)? Is there a performance difference between 2 vs 4 if all other specifics are equal?

good motherboard choice!i assume youve upgraded to the latest bios? also which OS are you using? if i were you, i'd just buy a second 2Gb kit, but please wait for more input before making an impulse buy, someone might have a deal online they found or have a better idea!

i would just get the 2x1gb sticks and prob save a little, and the performance wouldn't vary that much between 2gb stick and 2x1gb stick i rekon its only when you get into low numbers that it matters eg. 1bg better than 2x512 but for 2gb it wouldn't matter to much so yer id'e have 4x1gb stick mate.

4 modules will run in that MB but you might have to run the memory at DDR800 with 4 installed and they would need to match.
You can get more help with the settings for four modules at http://www.asktheramguy.com
