Wake up and read the mobo link again :finga:
AMD Socket 939, AMD Athlon 64 X2/Athlon 64 FX/Athlon 64/Sempron, 2000MT/s, CMOS Reloaded, PCI Express, DDR400, Karajan audio module (8-channel), S/PDIF-in/out, Serial ATA 3Gb/s, RAID 0/1/0+1, Dual Gigabit LAN, IEEE 1394 and 10 USB
DDR400 = DDR1

Listed kit = DDR2

Sorry merlin, the motherboard won't run it. Looks like you will have to go full plunge rather than component at a time.

Doh! I thought it was just a case of memory not rated to work on the board, but as we all know it will

OK so with DDR2 being replaced soon by DDR3, at least they do have DDR3 available, does that mean that DDR2 will not work in a DDR3 board and vise versa? and lastly with my boad being a socket 939 (gone already) should I just wait and get Mainboard/CPU combo + memory next year??

Yeah with the waiting. You are right that DDR2 wont wont work in a DDR3 board (or backwards). But DDR2 will provide performance for a good while yet.

My biggest concern is that I will upgrade to say an AM2 socket with DDR2 in a few months they change to a socket ZZ with DDR3 making the only upgrade I can do equal in price to the one I just did. The last upgrade I did had to include 3 components because of a socket change and PCI-e replaced AGP so I had to upgrade the MOBO/CPU and Vid card. The next one it looks like is gonna have to be PSU , MOBO/CPU, and Ram. I can do PSU, Dual core CPU for now and then do the "big" upgrade after DDR3 comes out and see which socket things are heading towards at that time. Look over my signature and tell me what you all think I should do for a mainly gaming rig. I know the PSU is first on the list but after that??

Wikipedia has socket AM3 launching late this year/early next. wikipedia.org

It might be worth holding out for that? You might be able to pick up a 939 x2 on ebay or some retail if you are lucky. Would be a viable tide over until a proper upgrade. AMD was always good at utilising memory, so the max 400Mhz RAM hopefully won't hold you back as much as it would with intel.

And additionally yes you can get a decent PSU, and then a nice graphics card. Top of the 7 series or mid 8 will do you nicely (or you might fancy stretching to the 8800 if you plan to be keeping it a good while and doing dx10).

Thanks for the advise. I think I will first save up for that 620 Watt Corsair then see If I can find a nice dual core 939 for fairly cheap. Is PCI-E going to be the Graphics interface for a long time or are there plans to replace it?

PCIe will be round for a while yet ^_^

They will be upping it to PCIe 2 in the near future, but from what i understand it will still be backwards compatible with PCIe 1 cards.
