memory prob (i think)

Post by rayjay »

Hey, I got some problems with my PC and i think it's memory related.

For example, when using a Video Editing Program and trying to Render something that is high resolution, it takes way too long, few friends have tried it and it's ok for them.

Here's an avi I tried to make - http://rapidshare.com/files/53443024/church.avi.html

There shouldn't be any glow in it at all.

http://img525.imageshack.us/img525/6610/gggggnx8.jpg - it shouldn't take that long at all, should take about 5 minutes max :x

Don't know if it's related or not but sometimes in Adobe Photoshop too, when I keep copy and pasting, it becomes slower and slower each time and I have to reopen the program for it to be ok again.

Checked for viruses and spyware using Ad-Aware, Spyware Doctor, Spybot, Avast Antivirus and AVG and also tried reinstalling the plugin and Vegas but still get the problem.

My specs:

(CPU) Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 3.20GHz @ 3192MHz (Dell Inc. 0GC375 mainboard)
(RAM) 1GB, 423.35MB free
(HDDs) 530GB, 59.7GB free
(VGA1) NVIDIA GeForce 6800 (256MB), 1280x1024x32, 85Hz
(OS) Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition (SP2)

Any ideas how I can fix this?

I don't think it's faulty ram but you should run memtest to be sure.

Just to point out that it's fine with a 800x512 avi but messed up with a 1280x720 one.

Could be that you are running out of free memory? Check task manager to see your free RAM when running the encoding.

Memtest can be found here. Burn the ISO to a CD and boot from the CD to run it.

well my floppy and cd rom drive don't work so i can't do that :(

in task manager, mem usage for the program is 70k, cpu usage varies from 50-60% and PF uage is about 700mb

Well that checks out.

If your PC supports booting from a USB drive you can run memtest from one of those.

There's also windows memtest
http://hcidesign.com/memtest/

run two instances so all your ram is tested, leave it to run for a few hours

Am I reading the screenshot correctly, you're trying to encode ~51mins ~22sec of HD content? this will take a long time on a P4
