Press Release: Corsair Announces 2 Gigabyte Reg PC-3200

Post by Apoptosis »

Fremont, CA, January 13, 2004: Corsair Memory, Inc., a global leader in extreme-performance DDR memory
modules for PC gamers and enthusiasts, today announced the industry’s first registered PC3200 2 Gigabyte
matched module pair designed specifically for AMD Athlon 64 FX processors.
Building on the success of the company’s Registered PC3200 line of XMS modules which were designed
specifically for the Athlon 64 FX platform, Corsair is introducing higher density modules. The new
TwinX2048RE-3200 is a matched pair of Registered PC3200 modules with ECC (error correction) that has twice
the density of existing Registered PC3200 parts. Each module is built with eighteen 64Mx8 (512Megabit) RAM
chips which do not require stacking. With these modules, Athlon 64 FX users will be able to install up to 4
Gigabytes of PC3200 memory.
TwinX2048RE-3200 has passed Corsair’s demanding qualification process, which includes extensive
compatibility testing with a variety of Athlon 64 FX motherboards. In manufacturing, every matched pair of
modules is tested in a motherboard at its rated speed and at its rated latency values. TwinX kits are tested as a
matched pair and physically packaged together immediately after passing test, guaranteeing that the customer
receives a product that has been verified in the dual channel environment.
According to John Crank, Athlon 64 FX Product Manager at AMD, “This new Corsair memory kit gives
enthusiasts more to be enthusiastic about—greater memory expandability. Corsair has a proven track record of
delivering exactly what the enthusiast community needs, and this product is no exception. The combo of Corsair
memory and the Athlon 64 FX gives complete confidence in the performance.”
This matched pair will also be available as individual modules; CMX1048RE-3200 is a 1 Gigabyte Registered
PC3200 module packaged solo. Both products are available with either black or platinum colored aluminum heat
spreaders that enhance performance by keeping the components cool. These new parts support 3-3-3-8 latency
settings. Both parts will begin shipping immediately to distributors and resellers worldwide.
"These products give Athlon 64 FX power users an avenue to get to 4 Gigabytes of memory, or to 2 Gigabytes
with room to expand later. This is ideal for graphics applications and for resource hungry new games such as
Doom 3” said Corsair Marketing Director Joe James.
