ram question

Post by hercules71185 »

I have 2x512mb patriot ram. Also I have 2x1gb team elite ram. the patriot latency is 5 and the team elite is 4. Should I just not use the patriot since 2gb is decent? And does ram speed really matter when you have a fast processor and video card?

You should be fine using both as Ive used differant memory brands with differant timings before without a problem . If the memory is not going to be overclocked then you can try using CAS4 timing . If your going to try and overclock the memory then use CAS5 timing . The differance in the two timings will not be noticeable any how . The biggest thing to worry about that both brands play nice together . Its kinda a hit or miss thing , best you can do is give it a try ;) .
For me , going from from 2gigs to 3gigs total system memory was a nice little overall boost in system/gaming performance .

Having more memory never hurts so I don't see a reason not to use them.
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Chuck Norris allows to live.

You won't really notice a difference if you have to run all the memory at CAS 5.

Depending on how heavy you multi task you will see a gain in general app's. Though I have 2 gig and don't really fill it up (and I heavily multi-task), though if you are into CAD, it will definitely be a boost.

awesome and thanks for the help. They do "play nice" together. I purchased the 2x1gb ram to upgrade to 2 gigs and leave 2 gigs free and tried to ebay the patriot band... The only problem was the ram didn't sell haha. I don't mind to much but, it can't hurt considering if I have azureus open and a game such as battlefield 2 (takes up more ram than 2142 for some reason) or oblivion with the quarls texture 3 mod I'm right up around 1.9gb.. Before I had to run my games on 1024 x768 not because of the video card on BF2 but, the ram. Having 1 gig sucked haha. Once again thanx for the help. Time to learn how to mod my case I just got
