Re: what is the right number!!!!
They both show ram usage at ~16%. Windows is reporting 3Gb and the widget shows 2.9Gb. What is reported in your Bios and using CPU-Z? Also, right click "My Computer", select properties and see what is reported there.
Ok, heres the deal...windows is showing your available Ram and the widget is reporting your Ram in usage. Windows is reporting 400MB in use, while the widget is reporting 500MB in use. I'm guessing that you didn't check them both at the exact same moment, which allows for the small discrepancy.

everything on my computer says I have exactly 3gb of ram except that widget. sometimes the variation is more extreme and yea both are at the exact same second. Windows will say. 280mb ram.. while the widget claims 420mb.. To be that seems like a significant difference. I know I have plenty of ram still I just want to know the correct number to go by.. the widget does look pretty nice tho
Re: what is the right number!!!!
Obviously looks and accuracy are 2 different things. Don't trust the widget. The old adage says, You get what you pay for, and the widget cost you nothing.
