hp pavilion a317x maximum memory?

Post by checolo »

I have an hp pavillion a317x desktop and according to the hp website the maximum memory is 1gb, however, in other sites it says that the maximum memory is 2gb. How can I find out if it will indeed support 2gb without having to waste my money on a 1gb module if it does not work? any help will be appreciated.

checolo,

I was able to go to HP's site and fine the model of your computer on this list. If you digg around a bunch you will get to this page that will tell you what the specifications of your board are. It looks like you can indeed install 2GB, but for some reason they only recommend 1GB, which is odd. Two 1GB modules should work though as your system uses a motherboard with an Intel 845GL chipset.

Memory type DDR
Memory speed PC2100/PC1600
Memory sockets 2 DIMMs (184 Pin)
Maximum memory 2 GB (HP and Compaq recommend 1 GB)

HP/Compaq Pavilion a317x

1024 MB is max supported Ram according to crucial and kingston sites, but they just go by HP recommendations.

I also find it odd that HP recommends just 1GB.
