4GB DDR2-800 - x8 organisation

Post by DJL »

Does anyone know of any 2GB DDR2-800 DIMMS with x8 organisation?

Intel for the 35 and 965 chipsets specify "Double-sided DIMMs with x16 organization are not supported" but I can't find any that arn't!

Thanks
Daniel

Interesting.

I use doublesided ram on my p35 board. Plus the manufacturer of a g965 board i own has plenty of doublesided rams in its support list.
Check the ram support list of each board you are interested in and/or the supported chips.
I don't think doublesided dimms are a problem

The list only has double sided dimms in x8 configuration. Any x16s are single sided.

The only DIMM manufacturer who seem to publish organisation information is Mushkin - but thats almost impossible to get hold of in the UK.

lol - its hardly clear.

After being told by crucial/kingston and several others their 2GB dimms were all x16 config I did some more research. Looks like they all have no idea what they are talking about. I'm assuming they all quoted me the chip count rather than organisation.

As far as I can see all Micron and Kingston are x8 config for 1/2GB modules.

Shall see what I get when my 4GB turns up in the post tomorrow.

So what's the difference between 16 chips on a stick (8 per side?) and 16x config then?
