i have had the corsair xms2 memory installed for a long time and it has been stable. but N**E** had my identical memory on sale so i got two more matched sticks and put them in and let the computer auto-configure them but i have had some instability issues with the computer restarting or even sometimes the screen goes blank but does not restart the computer. Sometimes Adobe Premeire freezes up entirely and i have to reboot and i never had that problem with the originlal two sticks. so i took the new two out and everything is stable again for over a week.
any suggestions ?
should i try using only one of the sticks?
is there setting in the BIOS that i can make to get all four to run stably ?? i am not OCing, just want more memory and stability.
all four sticks are: CM2X1024-6400C4 4-4-4-12 800Mz
THANKS

Re: BadAx2 memory settings for corsair xms2
probably bad ram or bad slots on the mother board. run memtest with only the new ram installed. if you get errors, take out one stick and run it again, if you still get errors, take that stick out, and put the other new stick in. if you still get errors, try doing that same thing in every slot. of switching the slot stops the errors, than you have a bad slot. if every slot gives you errors with the new ram, the ram is bad

The other thing you can do is just run the new sticks you bought and see if they're stable. Also make sure you have the correct voltages settings for the memory. If you have the XMS2 Twinpack "TWIN2X2048-6400C4DHX" the voltage on that memory is 2.1 volts, and you'll have to go into the BIOS and set the voltage manually, as the memory timings and voltage is not "automatically" set by the BIOS. I have the same board as you and I had to manually set my voltage. Look at the info lable of the menory to see what the volts should be, and as I said, set in manually in the BIOS.
As a side note 32bit operating systems do not improve greatly with more then 3gig of RAM, so you may not see any improvement at all. Thus your question will be: performance issues with your system and the added ram vs minimal performance gains. I actually tried 4gig of RAM in my system and suffered some minor issues. You'll hear a lot of debate about this issue so I suggest you search the web and come to your own conclusions.
My systems specs:
D975XBX2 (AAD53350-505)
Intel Core 2 Quad (Q6600 - 2.4gig) - OC to 2.9gig
2gig Corsair Dominator RAM - PC8500 (TWINX2X2048-8500CDF) - Mem timings set to 4-4-4-12
ATI 3870 Video Card
Creative X-FI Soundcard
Western Digital HD - 4x 320Gig
Lite-On DVD Burner
Windows Vista Ultimate (32Bit) SP1 (RC)
PS: The factory settings of the my memory is 2.2 volts, timings 5-5-5-18
Good luck.

Re: BadAx2 memory settings for corsair xms2
i just looked at where the BIOS had auto-configured the original two sticks and it was
5.0-5-5-18 voltage of 1.84
how did it come up with that i wonder and if i configure it manually as 4-4-4-12 should i use the same voltage ??
thanks

Re: BadAx2 memory settings for corsair xms2
Not surprised - Again, the BIOS does not set the Voltage and timings automatically. The manual for that board says it supposed to, but it doesn't. You'll have to set the timings and voltage manually.slickmarty wrote:i just looked at where the BIOS had auto-configured the original two sticks and it was

Use the voltage rating that's printed on the memory; I'm quite sure it's 2.1, but check the memory yourself!

Now run the new sticks you bought to see if there are any issues, then try it with all four, then run memtest as mentioned earlier.slickmarty wrote:doah !!!! 2.10v didn't even see that ....
