Memroy Problem

Post by danno »

Hi,

I have just added 4 gb of ram to my computer for a total of 6 gb. I have 2-1gb sticks and 2-2gb sticks. My computer is only reporting 3 gb in the start up at the task manager. Let me know if you can help.

That is because you are running a 32-bit OS correct? That is the limitation of the OS, so to be able to use all the memory you know have you need to get a 64-bit OS.

Install a 64 bit version of windows, preferably vista, then and you will be able to see and use the rest of your RAM.

32bit operating systems have an addressing limit of 4GB, and video memory, and other addresses have to come out of that 4GB pool so depending on the system you can only usually see and use about 3GB-3.2GB (as you have found out).
